Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) Part - 3
Cloud Services - Objective
Following are the Cloud Services -
- Infrastructure as Service (IaaS)
- Platform as Service(PaaS)
- Software as a Service (SaaS)
- Identify appropriate use cases for each cloud service(IaaS , PaaS ,SaaS)
Infrastructure as Service (IaaS)
- Delivers compute infrastructure ,typically a platform virtualization environment as a service.
- Cloud providers build datacenters ,managing power ,scale, hardware ,networking ,storage, distributed systems etc.
- Rather than purchasing servers ,software, data center space or network equipment ,clients instead buy those resources as a fully outsourced service.
- Eg : AWS EC2 , Azure Virtual Machine ,GCP Compute Engine.
- It Provides environment for building ,testing and deploying software applications and without focusing on managing underlying infrastructure.
- Its is an offering that provides platform for developing running and managing applications without worrying about infrastructure provisioning and maintenance.
- Cloud provers offer an Internet based platform to developers who can create services.
- Example : AWS Elastic Beanstalk ,Azure App Service ,Google App Engine
- PaaS is a complete development and deployment environment in the cloud, with resources that enable you to deliver everything from simple cloud-based apps to sophisticated, cloud-enabled enterprise applications.
Software as a Service (SaaS)
The SaaS a way of delivering applications over the Internet—as a service. Instead of installing and maintaining software, you simply access it via the Internet, freeing yourself from complex software and hardware management.
Users connect to and use cloud based apps over the internet e.g.-Microsoft Office 365 ,Gmail, calendars

SaaS is a software delivery methodology that provides licensed multi-tenant access to software and its functions remotely as a Web-based service. The SaaS reduces users upfront costs by eliminating the need to permanently purchase software or invest in a robust on-premise IT infrastructure as is the case with traditional software.
